Absence Policy

Please ensure that if your child is going to be absent from school, for any reason, you let the school know as soon as possible.

Murrayburn Policy on Notification of a Child’s Absence

Empty CorridorParents/carers will be contacted by the school by 10.30 am at the latest if their child has not appeared at school as expected and if no phone call has been received. This contact will be by telephone.

Where an absence starts in the afternoon, a similar procedure will apply.

We will only contact you on the 1st day of a child’s absence.

Please ensure that all your contact information is correct and that any changes are shared with the school.

Please note that in the situation where a child does not turn up for school, no phone call has been received and if we are unable to contact a parent/carer on any of the numbers you have provided, no further action can be taken by us to establish the whereabouts of your child. This is why it is crucial that we have the most up to date contact information.

Planned Leave

Holidays taken during school terms, unless there are special circumstances, are registered as an unauthorised leave. Absence of any length can have a big impact on children’s progress in learning, especially in Primary 1.

We encourage all parents, in line with City of Edinburgh Council Policy, not to take holidays where possible during term time.

Please ensure that if your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, that you let the school know as soon as possible.
